This family shoot is very near and dear to my heart.  While I absolutely love this family, I find myself wishing I had never met them.  At least, not the way that I did.  Maybe at a local event, through my photography business, through mutual friends, but not at the pediatric oncology clinic.  I play many roles in this wonderful life of mine, and while I am blessed to be a photographer, I am also blessed to be a part-time pediatric nurse.  I met this sweet family when their daughter, Meredith, was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.  Unfortunately for us, this spunky, sweet, beautiful girl passed away and now rejoices pain and cancer free in arms of our Savior in heaven.  While I cannot change the circumstances in which we met, I feel so honored to have cared for her.  She was one of the bravest people I have ever met.  If you ever witness a child battling cancer, it will change your life forever.

Meredith’s mother, Misti, chose this location, The Blackburn Inn, in Staunton, VA for their mini photography shoot and it could not have been more perfect!!  Currently, through January 4th the Blackburn Inn is hosting The MaDee Project “Avenue of Evergreens”.  The MaDee Project is a local non-profit organization that provides financial support for pediatric cancer patients and their families, while also supporting national cancer research funding in finding a cure for this disease.  The “Avenue of Evergreens” is a fundraiser where businesses, non-profits, and individuals may purchase a spot to put up a tree or wreath.  Monetary donations can be made in favor of each vote entry.  To learn more,  The News Virginian highlights the local event here.

Enjoy my favorites from their mini session!  I had so much fun seeing this sweet family and capturing Christmas photos for them!  I cannot believe Zach is already a junior in high school!  He’s grown so much since I saw him last!
