Rachel + Jordan | Mill at Fine Creek Wedding

The Mill at Fine Creek Wedding | Richmond, VA Wedding Photographer

Rachel and Jordan’s Mill at Fine Creek Wedding was the most gorgeous day!! The historic grounds were the perfect location for this classy, timeless couple. Rachel and Jordan were wed in the original mill stone ruins, where lush greenery and ivy have been climbing the stone walls for so many years. It painted a memorable and romantic picture, telling the tale of a different time.

Just before the ceremony was about to commence, gray clouds rolled in and rain began to fall from the sky. While most couples would have opted for an indoor wedding, it did not deter Rachel and Jordan. This easygoing couple decided to proceed with the ceremony in the ruins as they originally planned! As a result, they had a very intimate, romantic exchange of vows in the drizzling rain. Their guests stayed dry on the covered, wraparound balcony that was overlooking the ruins of the mill to witness the marriage of Rachel and Jordan. The sun began to shine towards the end, just as their two lives were officially becoming one in the unity of marriage.

The wedding theme was a mixture of Cottagecore and Art Deco meets Old Hollywood. It was very classy, however there were still a lot of opportunities for Rachel and Jordan’s personalities to shine. Rachel custom designed her own wedding gown with exquisite detachable off shoulder bishop sleeves. Her wedding gown featured intricate lace and beading, with a long train. Rachel said, “I knew I wanted a full ball gown, not many people are doing that, and I just love how extra it is!” It was truly breathtaking.

Rachel wore the pearl earrings that her mother wore the day she married her father.  She also repurposed her mother’s veil. Another sentimental piece of jewelry that she wore, was the pearl necklace that her grandaddy had gifted her mother. She completed her striking bridal look with designer Jimmy Choo stiletto heels. Not only were they embellished with sparkling crystals, but they had a genuine ostrich feather tassel.

Every little detail was precisely planned to bring Rachel and Jordan’s gorgeous wedding day vision to life. From the lovely invitation suite featuring deckled edges, ribbon and wax seals, all the way to the tablescape decor and floral arrangements. Ivory, with pops of burgundy and blush accents were the perfect color palette for their late September wedding.

Rachel has a love for urn flower pots, so she had the florist put some floral arrangements in bubble cases and rest them on some of the wider candlestick holders on the tables to get that look. Rachel had a vision for runners on the long tables, with stunning florals and lots of greenery. Inspired from the Phantom of the Opera, LED candles filled brass candlesticks that lined the tabletops. Not only did Rachel custom design her own wedding gown, she also custom designed the wedding favor candles through their own business, Charlesworth Apothecary.

One of my favorite details from Rachel and Jordan’s Mill at Fine Creek wedding was the guest book! It was an exceptionally unique idea! I’ve never seen anything like it! Rachel and Jordan love to travel and have taken many trips together. They enjoy road trips and adventures with their dogs. Their vintage luggage guestbook had vintage postcards for their guests to write them an idea of somewhere to go or something to do and drop them into the suitcase. The ideas from their guests will add to their bucket list of adventures as a now married couple! The suitcase is also a great place for them to store other wedding memorabilia. Afterwards, they plan to place the suitcase with their other two in the living room at home as a stackable decor piece.

Oh, and did I mention she changed into a beautiful reception wedding gown?! You read that right, Rachel had TWO wedding gowns and both were truly stunning. There was just enough light to capture some beautiful just married portraits of the couple by the creek. It was an undeniably gorgeous day! The rest of the evening was spent mingling with their closest family and friends, laughing and dancing the night away!
